Accreditation Begins at ADC National Convention Venue

Accreditation has officially commenced at the venue of the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking the formal start of one of the party’s most significant political gatherings ahead of future elections.

The exercise is taking place at the Rainbow Event Centre, where thousands of delegates from across Nigeria have converged to participate in the convention. Reports indicate that no fewer than 3,000 delegates, representing the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, are already on ground for the event.

The atmosphere at the venue reflects both anticipation and diversity, with party members dressed in colourful attire that highlights the nationwide spread and unity of the ADC. The accreditation process, a critical step in ensuring only verified delegates participate in proceedings, is being closely supervised by the party’s accreditation sub-committee.

Security has also been heightened around the venue, with personnel conducting thorough checks on delegates and officials before granting access. This measure is aimed at maintaining order and ensuring a smooth process throughout the convention.

Speaking on the process, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, explained that delegate allocation was carefully structured based on the size of each state. According to him, this approach ensures fairness and equitable representation during the convention’s decision-making processes.

However, the buildup to the convention was not without challenges. Party officials revealed that securing a suitable venue proved difficult, as several event centres and facilities reportedly declined to host the ADC. The refusals were attributed to alleged external pressures and concerns about possible repercussions. Despite these setbacks, the party proceeded with its plans after securing the current venue.

The national convention is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the party. Key agenda items include the conclusion of ongoing congresses, ratification of a new party constitution, and setting the stage for upcoming primaries. These outcomes are seen as essential steps in strengthening the party’s internal structure and preparing for future electoral contests.

In addition, the convention comes at a time of heightened political activity within the party, with expectations that new leadership structures or reaffirmations may emerge from the proceedings.

As accreditation continues and more delegates arrive, attention remains focused on how the convention will unfold and the decisions that will ultimately define the ADC’s direction in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
